The Testimonials were recorded in Kargil - the last leg of the
adventurous journey of Outback Adventures' Wheels on Roads- The
Great Himalayan Motor biking Expedition 2010 which started on
19th July 2010.
Following are excerpts from a video interview of the
riders
From
my journal - Wheels on Roads Himalayan Biking Expedition 2010
(19th July - 2nd August) by Outback Adventures
Traveling and exploring places has always been
a passion of mine. India with its diversity provides unparalleled
opportunities for such experiences. Since time in memorial, the
beauty of the Himalayas has been described in innumerable scriptures
and articles. People from all walks of life have been enthralled
by it.
Having known Outback Adventures and Bharath
and Aleem for some time, when they announced Wheels on Roads Himalayan
Biking Expedition 2010, I could not let go of the chance of being
able to acquaint myself with the magnificent Himalayan landscape.
So began the quest for the Himalayan biking adventure.
Being one with the surroundings, in the resplendent
valleys, as you ride capturing each moment, the snow capped mountains,
deserted hills, and green valley all at once, you are humbled
and bewildered at the creation. With oxygen levels going down
with every turn of the wheel, biking through the treacherous passes
and winding roads was delightfully challenging. What gives you
the satisfaction and the sense of achievement being on top or
reaching the destination is the journey you take to get there.
With Outback Adventures worrying about the changing
weather, fuel, accommodation and other logistics, the bikers could
ride in peace. I was a pillion rider this expedition, gearing
up to ride it out next time around. The bikers and crew, strangers
to each other when we started are now bound and connected by the
journey we took those 15 days.
If you are passionate about your bike and riding, I suggest and
encourage you take this route at least once in your lifetime.
PS: There were flash floods
due to a series of cloud bursts around the region of Leh a couple
of days after we returned from our expedition. Praying that the
people recover and rebuild their lives fast and the place regains
its glory.

I
am waiting to give feedback on my recent biking trip to the Himalayas.
Little did I know that I would be writing like this, by the time
we'd return home, this moment would become cruelly destined, to
be served with threnody rather than with the uplifting words of
gaiety?
On 5th August around 12 mid night the whole Ladakh was rocked
by a devastating mudslide due to cloudburst. About 300 people
were killed, few hundred families were rendered homeless and several
hundreds went missing …
I prey to the almighty to give all strength and ability to the
loved ones left behind and to all of us to get through the loss
of loosing them and may their souls rest in peace forever. "Although
it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back
in memory help comfort you tomorrow."
Now the Biking Expedition
Three cheers to Outback Adventures.
I had not even dreamt of this a few months before even in my
wildest dreams… All credit goes to Mr. Aleem, Mr. Bharath
and the total crew of Outback Adventures. You made it.
Mammoth task of 3000Kms……with so ease……
it's remarkable. I would like to say you guys created a bench
mark.
The standby Mechanic Mr.Murali, The drivers Mr. Keval Singh &
Mr. Govind Singh and the transport owner (I call him Transport
Minister) Mr. Harvinder Singh Parul, and last but not the least
our vehicles the Toyota Qualis, Tempo Traveller and the Bullets.
Without all you guys I don't think we could ever accomplish this
mammoth task at such ease and in one piece!!!
As the going get tough the tougher gets going- I wish all of
you to get tougher and tougher because from now on the going will
get tough. The new bench mark created must be bettered in the
next trip. Wish you all the very best.

Wheels
on road to ladhak. The experience has been fabulous. A nice relationship
I've been experiencing with the landscape, the bike and the road…Up
here I feel only these three elements exists which relates to
you and your thoughts… it's the Landscape, the Road and
the Bike.
The best part is the landscape… they are continuously changing…
You must observe the way the mountains move…By which I mean
when you see 2 or 3 mountains one behind the other, and as you
are moving you can see the mountain in the background moving behind
the one in the foreground. It's such a wonderful feeling…
Moving Mountains… You must experience it to feel it.
The road… they are really rugged and harsh. The fun of
riding on these roads is totally different. If they have to be
paved and made smooth, am sure the fun of riding would be lost.
And of course the bike. It's a nice little affair that you are
having with her. It's really harsh on her on these roads. How
much ever you push her, she takes it. At times she doesn't behave
too well, but that's understandable, been pushing her to the limits.
I think a pair of wheels, a little bit of money, and some music
is all you need to live a life up here. It's all about the thoughts
… You get some wonderful thoughts here… I guess it's
the height…may be….or may be its vastness …
One more thing I realized is although I am riding and am moving,
it's not me that is moving. It's the landscape that's moving…
I see the mountains moving, I see the road moving… its as
tough you are still and all the trees, the gravel, the road everything
is coming towards you and passing by you…. Going behind
you… its beautiful… it says so much. Makes you realize
you are just a mute spectator…You may have covered miles,
end of the day you are just stationary and everything has passed
by you.
It's been a wonderful, wonderful ride. These guys at Outback
Adventures have done a great job. What I can say about them is
that they are honest and sincere. That's good enough. That sums
it all up about Outback.
Surya and Jwalini
Surya
- This is Surya and Jwalini here. We are from pune and we came to
know about outback through one of my friend Prasanna. And then he
sent us the website address and all so we had a look and found out
that the things what we wanted or what we were looking for and so
decided to bea part of the team. We wanted to basically do everything
together as we are a couple. So when I thought that we'll go so
I asked her she said yes we'll go. And then we decided we'll go
together let it be riding together or whatever we'd go.
Jwalini- The experience was great. All I was expecting
was to see, it was my dream to come to len and ladakh to check it
out. My husband always wanted to go on a biking tour so that's how
we've matched it up together.
Surya- We've been driving 4wheelers in and around
for quite sometime. Biking expeditions are more adventurous. Next
time I'd come by on a 4 wheeler. Now that this experience is done.
Everything is good I mean like the things how they were planned
and discussed. I guess they have not only matched by also exceeded
the expectations of all the participants.
Jwalini- The crew. It's a great experience to
bee a part of this team.
Surya-people are strangers only for I think till
they say hi and hello. Once they get to know each other then we
are not strangers any more. That we have to stay together for 15days
so everybody has got that understanding and adjusting nature. So
I think that was an issue anywhere.
Toughest was probably manali to klong stretch.
We enjoyed a lot and it was toughest also. Basically I guess we
were not much ready for the terrain at that point of time. People
got stuck and the weather was not good and so that is why we feel
it was the toughest. After that it was all fine, the ride to leh
from sarchung and all that was like good.

Hiremath
I
came to know about Wheels on Roads through a friend of mine who
is very active on twitter. And this was in March just came to know
and visited the website registered and I am here. It's been great
so far, its going fine.
To start with delhi to mandi was okay. The real
fun started after mandi. Mandi to rothang pass was amazing like
one of the dangerous roads I have been to in riding. And from there
it has been a nice journey enjoying every moment of it. Getting
down from rothang pass to koksar was really adventurous.
